Coventry Motofest hosts world first premiere of new electric rally car
Coventry Motofest has again proved itself as a showcase arena for world car premieres as the eRally Renault Zoe car made a first ever public appearance on the ring road circuit.
Following in the tyre tracks of the Jaguar F-TYPE R AWD Bloodhound SSC Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV) which made its world public debut at Coventry Motofest 2015, the eRally Renault Zoe car whizzed around the Coventry Motofest track this year in a world first appearance to the delight of the many thousands gathered to watch the event.
As the UK's first fully-electric zero-emission competition stage rally car, it was driven on track by a driving team comprising of Ellya Gold and Robert Llewellyn, best known for Scrapheap Challenge on Channel 4 and as the mechanoid Kryten in the popular BBC series, Red Dwarf.
Following its public debut at Coventry Motofest, the Renaut Zoe e-Rally car will now go on to be tested alongside the Junior Formula 1000 Rally Championship for 14 to 17 year olds, with a view to completing a full 2017 championship season.
Robert Llewellyn, who currently hosts online show Fully Charged, said: "I have to say coming into the centre of a city to find racing cars, bikes and trucks blatting along the ring road is not something you expect.
“It was an amazing day, clearly very well organised and more importantly, very popular with the locals.
“Thousands of people turned out to watch what was going on and they were clearly enjoying themselves. Altogether a great success, long may it last."
The eRally Renault Zoe car’s run around the ring road circuit can be seen in the next episode of Fully Charged in the next couple of weeks.
